Inter-house Sports Competition 2022

Inter-house Sports Competition 2022

After a prolonged interim during which our community went through the dark cloud of uncertainty of the Covid lockdown there was a beam of sunshine as we held our first Inter-house Sports event in 5 years!

This event took place on Saturday, 2nd April at the Mediterranean Recreation Centre in Asokoro. The theme for this year’s Inter-house Sports was ‘The Champion Within’. The theme speaks to the fact that we believe every child has a champion within and all we need to keep doing is inspire them to imbibe positive and healthy life values that would help them to be and remain dogged in their pursuit of success and greatness.

Indeed our students, parents and staff proved themselves to be champions in many ways! What an event it was!

Where do we begin? The excitement…the energy…the colour…the sportsmanship…the laughter! It was such a joy to see our students exhibiting their skills and enjoying themselves in the process. Indeed, after the strain that the Covid lockdown put on them by curtailing physical activity this was a very welcome avenue to let loose!

The event kicked off at approximately 9:40am. Our Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba launched the event with a rousing speech and this was followed by the short jog around the track where our Torch was carried by our Principal, Mr Philip Reynolds and the Vice Principal Academic, Mr Femi Akinlade. Each house participated in a variety of activities ranging from swimming to relay races to tug of war and lots more in between.

Two of our students, Cynthia Menkiti and Destiny Egenege, were recognised as the Athletes of the Day by one of our special guests, ex-footballer and athlete Emmanuel Babayaro! They were given prize vouchers as well as medals and Mr Babayaro was so impressed by their performances that he stated his desire to link them up with the Nigerian Sports Federation!

We are indeed very proud of our students and look forward to many more physical exploits by Cynthia and Destiny with the hope that they inspire other Start-Rite students to excel in sporting activities!
