Swimming Programme

Swimming is an integral part of our curriculum!

Swimming has many benefits and applications in life, marking it as an important life skill everyone needs to learn whether as a child or an adult. Swim lessons are not only a fun, interactive way of making children water safe, but they teach valuable skills that can be applied in other areas of life.

Swimming and water safety

This is a compulsory part of the Start-Rite curriculum for PE and as such, all children are given the opportunity to swim, with the aim
that by the age of 11 all pupils should be taught to:

  • pace themselves in floating and swimming challenges related to speed, distance and personal survival
  • swim unaided for a sustained period of time over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use recognised arm and leg actions, lying on their front and back
  • use a range of recognised stroke and personal survival skills
