The International Award for Young People Nigeria (also referred to as The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award) is a global framework for non-formal education and learning, which challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements, and make a difference in their world. It gives 14 to 24-year-olds a framework that empowers them to learn and grow through non-formal education, all while working towards globally recognized accreditation and it operates in over 130 countries worldwide.
Start-Rite International Schools has been involved with the Award since 2020 and each year our students are being inspired to transform their lives. They are empowered with not just the confidence but the desire to create meaningful change in the school, their community, country, and the world.
Voluntary Service
Participants volunteer in their communities, make a positive contribution to society and demonstrate social responsibility. Examples include First Aid, environmental sanitation, care of the physically challenged, elderly, sick or visit to orphanages etc.
Physical Recreation
Encourage young people to improve their fitness and performance, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle for good mental and physical wellbeing. examples include jogging, basketball, badminton, cycling, football etc.
Skills
Enable participants to develop their talents, broaden their abilities, increase their self-confidence and improve their employability such as painting, craft work, fashion designing, music, photography etc.
Adventurous Journey
Young people discover the spirit of adventure and a deeper understanding of the environment and the great outdoors. Examples are bushwalking, hiking, cycling across a state or town, canoeing etc.
Gold Residential Project
Participants broaden their experience by staying in an unfamiliar environment with other young people, taking part n a worthwhile project, and building new relationships. Examples are residential language courses, environment and conservation projects, skill development, providing service to other people and communities etc.
