Character Education

Pillars of Character

Start-Rite Schools is growing future leaders.  With a focus on academic excellence,  integrity, responsibility, critical and global thinking and, of course,  bilingualism.  Start-Rite Schools is growing children who are confident and strong, curious enough to question and capable enough to find the answers; growing youth who stick to a job until the job gets done and know how to work with others, as well as lead.

The Six Pillars of Character are the core ethical values of Start-Rite Schools.  Articulated in the Aspen Declaration, these values were identified by a nonpartisan, nonsectarian (secular) group of youth development experts in 1992 as core ethical values that transcend cultural, religious and socioeconomic differences.

The six pillars are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

The Six Pillars of Character are values that are highlighted and emphasised within our school. Each pillar of character is associated with a particular colour scheme.

Acts with integrity, honesty and loyalty.  Live based on ethical principles having the courage to do the right things, speak with truth, honour your word and fulfill promises.

Honour everyone’s values and dignity,  and follow the Golden Rule to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.  Tolerate and accept differences.  Use good manners and avoid using offensive language.   Solve disagreements and deal with anger calmly.

Fulfill commitments and duties, assuming responsibility for decisions made.  Persevere and always do your best.  Use self-control and be self-disciplined.  Be accountable for your own words, actions, and attitudes.

Be consistent, partial and treat all people fairly, considering all the aspects of a situation.   Think globally, and be tolerant and be sensitive to other people’s perspective.

Be empathic, kind, compassionate, generous and thankful.  Be charitable without expecting anything in return.

Follow laws and respect authority.  Strive for the well-being of your community.   Protect the environment and participate in democracy.
