Primary Numeracy Challenge

Start-Rite Primary School held it’s annual Numeracy Challenge on Thursday, 27th June 2019.  The Primary Numeracy Challenge is a fun and exciting mathematical challenge aimed at pupils across the school.

The challenge was held in the Auditorium and watched by their fellow housemates for Jasmine House, Cherry House, Bluebell House and Ivy House.  The competition was tough but eventually, the winners emerged.  The children enjoyed the brain crunching experience.

Working in teams of four students teams and working against the clock the teams were challenged to think outside the box and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as quantitative reasoning to answer questions using only a pencil and a piece of paper.  The questions were not necessarily reliant on formal mathematical knowledge but could be solved by logical reasoning.

The Numeracy Challenge encourages enthusiasm, boosts confidence in mathematics and shows the different way questions can be asked.  We believe in the importance of Problem Solving as a means of helping pupils develop their reasoning skills.
